He chuckled and slapped Tony’s hand away and then looking back at the armor,”This is the aftermath of the fight with your old pal, Vanko.” Rhodey hadn’t meant for a giant mess of pieces parts, it had just worked out that way. He couldn’t put the suit on due to the fact parts had been cut or blown straight to hell. “Well I can order pizza, and since you’re the one fixing it up for me, I can pay.” Pizza was the least Jim could do in payment to Tony, though he was picking up some very good tips and knowledge by watching the master at work.

He didn’t mention the vivid dreams he had been having though, didn’t need to give Tony something elseto worry about. The man had his fair share of problems to deal with as was, what with being an Avenger and all. Besides it wasn’t anything major, not like his armor, which his friend was graciously fixing. “What about a software upgrade? So I can’t get hacked again..” That was a novel situation he didn’t want to go through again.

“Pal?” Tony repeated, a dark eyebrow arching towards his hairline. What concerned Stark more was the fact that Rhodey hadn’t brought the armor here sooner. The fight with Vanko had been too far back for Tony remember, hell he couldn’t keep track with what he wore the day before. “Oh I see how it is. Cheap labor.” Tony said, pulling up a screen to begin diagnosis. “Whatever. I’ll do it for pizza.” Tony toyed with the idea of whoring himself out for pizza and he grinned to himself as he pulled a stylist from the back pocket of his jeans. “You’re so needy Rhodey.” Tony shot a glance at his friend. “Do you need to get laid? You look tense.” A lopsided smile played over his lips. “But, for you anything baby.” He said, pursing his lips into a kissy face. “Hey Butterfingers, wanna give me a hand?” He shouted at the robotic system next to him. “Yes you.” Tony nodded as the machinery came to attention. “I’m running a system update and I’ll have to get some new parts in here to clean up your mess. I’ll be done in no time though so you might as well get on ordering that pizza.” Tony said as he began striding across the room to a chrome refrigerator against the opposite wall. “Want a beer, Coke? I’m also contractually obligated to mention Gatorade.” Tony flashed a row of pearly white teeth at his own joke as he pulled the fridge door open.

He just grinned and rolled his eyes, “It’s probably better that I don’t get laid with anyone you’ve already slept with. Who knows where they went next! Could get Hammer STD’s or something.” He chuckled and pulled his cell out of his pocket and looked down at it. “I’ll have a beer,” He said as he ran the number in for a local pizza place and called. He ordered three giant sized pepperoni pizza’s with two sides of breadsticks. Once that was done he watched Tony work on the suit. He should have taken it in to Tony sooner, beforethe whole alien invasion thing happened. But he wasn’t tense because he hadn’t been laid, he was tense because he had somehow lived the same experience as Tony had. Without actually having something stabbed into his chest to keep him alive and Rhodes gently brushed his chest where an Arc reactor could be while Tony wasn’t looking. He then went and brought the Pizza down once it had arrived and set one of the boxes down next to Tony, “That one’s yours, one’s mine, and then we can share the last one. Unless you want to fight over it” James smirked.

He wheeled it inside the elevator just in time, chuckling at Tony’s grin. “Well at least you remember me. Unlike that poor chick you left outside the bar on the way home. Remember? Brooklyn, 2001?”, He jabbed Tony jokingly in the ribs. When they got to the workshop, he whistled. If anything, Tony always knew how to upgrade his toys, workshop included. He carted the armor in and asked for Tony’s help getting the box on a table. Once done he opened the box up and revealed the armor and it’s battered state.

Tony cocked his head to one side and looked at his long time friend. “Chick… 2001… Brooklyn. Can’t say that I remember.” He laughed, trying to move out of the way but managed to get jabbed in the ribs. “I could never forget you, baby.” Tony said, reaching his hand out to touch Rhodey’s face knowing full well that Rhodey would slap him away.

He helped, or if you were to ask him later: did most of the work, to get the armor elevated. “Jeez. What the hell did you do? Get caught in a blender?” Tony asked, wiping his brow with his sleeve. There was definitely a lot of work to be done and the thought of starting from scratch crossed his mind be he opted on repairs. “Here I was thinking I could wrap this up in less than ten and we could go upstairs and order pizza or something.” Tony pouted as he circled the War Machine armor, assessing the damage.

Headcanon; Memories shared

Due to the War Machine armor originally being the MkII armor of Tony’s, akin to the comics, Rhodes is getting mental visions of some of Tony’s memories. Including the ones where he was being held captive by the 10 rings.

Oh, I’m sorry, were you having a nice day?

James woke up the next day sore. He wasn’t sure what had happened. He wasn’t even sure of where the hell he was. It was rank though so he quickly came to the conclusion that he was in some sort of a military barrack. He sat up and looked around and he saw Tony across from him on another bed. He tried to go over and put his hand on Tony’s shoulder but when he touched him, men in drab clothing came running in poking and prodding at another elderly man to translate for Stark. James touch went right through his friend instead of coming in contact with the battered and bruised skin. He stumbled back and watched as the events transpired. Tony had his Mark I arc reactor in his chest. Rhodey recognized the coloration and the difference compared to the newer and more power efficient Mark III RT. They started yelling, the elder man was forced down and was shouting out words James couldn’t understand. A balding man took a hot coal from a furnace and just as Rhodes tried to stop him.

He woke up.

He was relieved that he hadn’t had to change. Usually after the suit was removed he’d have sweat enough for it to soak his shirt. Luckily, the short flight from the helicarrier down to Stark Tower had enabled him to keep cool. As soon as he entered the penthouse JARVIS informed him of Rhodey’s arrival. “Perfect timing.” He said to himself as he jogged down the steps into the main portion of the house. “Let him in, I’ll meet him down there.” Tony was quick enough to greet Rhodey at the door along with the armor. “Hey, bud. Let’s bring it into the shop.” He said, already turning to start for the shop. “Just wheel it in. If you can manage it. Looks like you’ve been pretty sedentary.” He grins at the little shot at the Colonel.

Rhodey chuckled and made a mock ‘disgust’ face at Tony. “Man, how long has it been since you took a shower?”, He did actually smell the sweat scent but it wasn’t as bad as some of those other times. “You just want to see the armor, no time for an old pal”, James teased as he carted in the wooden box containing the armor. Taking it to the elevator that would take them to the shop, stairs were not suited for this situation on Rhodey’s part.

Tony glanced down at the piece around his wrist. “I’d say six hours.” Tony rattled off, which wouldn’t be so bad if he hadn’t been in the suit. “Sorry no, busy with all this Avengers stuff. You know.” Tony grinned that trademark grin that frequented his face. Tony pressed his index finger against the G1 button on the panel of the elevator, waiting patiently for Rhodey to get the box in before the doors closed. “We’ll just drop it off and let JARVIS run an external scan and we can go back upstairs.” Tony said just as the doors swept open once more, this time revealing the interior of Stark’s workshop.

James groaned as he rubbed his temples in an attempt to get rid of the whirlwind size migraine that was wrecking his head.Well this definitely wasn’t what I had planned for the day.Light was making it worse by the second and so he had to find some ibuprofen to take. Sitting down on the sofa he just laid his head back and closed his eyes.

I would’a payed to see that.
